When will registration open?
Registration will open in early January 2012.
Who are these competitions designed for?
Everyone and anyone who knows some lindy hop and vintage jazz dance. SSJ encourages newer dancers to experience the competitive environment in a fun and supportive setting, but we also want to provide a exciting competition opportunity for intermediate and advanced dancers. If you have any questions about which competitions are most suitable for you, email us.
Can I bring friends and family?
Definitely! This event is a tremendous showcase of lindy hop, local dancers, and vintage jazz music. Because there is no admission fee, we hope your friends, families, co-workers, dog groomers, manicurists and random acquaintances off the street will join us for some or all of the day.
Will there be any social dancing at the competition?
There will be brief intermissions between each contest and one extended break so that competitors and spectators can enjoy great music by favorite local DJs.
Will there be a dance after the competition?
Stay tuned...
How do I pay?
We have added a PayPal payment option to the registration process this year. You must pay your competitions fees in full to be fully registered.
What are the competition prizes?
Our generous donors have in most cases provided full passes to their respective events (details to be announced on the About Us page). Because SSJ is a volunteer run event and competition fees cover expenses, we will not be offering cash prizes.
Do event pass winners have their travel costs covered?
Nope! Some of our event pass prizes are for events outside of the state and country. Should you choose to use your pass, it is your responsibility to make your own arrangements and pay for associated travel, food, lodging, and other costs.
How will the contests be judged?
The SSJ planning team is currently assembling our event judges. We pride ourselves on a unique judging panel of professional lindy hoppers, active lindy hop community members, indiviudals wfrom other dance backgrounds, and other community members. Judging criteria includes skill, presentation, musicality and creativity. Most competitions will award the top three competitors/couples in each competition. Individual scores will not be made public.
Can I take video and/or photos?
Of course! We are not selling video or photo passes, and will not be sponsoring an official event photographer or videographer. We encourage all those that love to document lindy hop to come with their gear. If you post photos or videos publicly, kindly note that they were taken at Savoy Swing Jam 2011!
